Nikon D5100 – Why to Buy the D5100 Over the Nikon D3100

artoftheimage.blogspot.com - Nikon D5100 - Why to Buy the D5100 About the Nikon D3100
Online video Score: three / 5

www.learningdslrvideo.com I seen that the Nikon D5100 has an in camera HDR mode so I needed to give it a try out because I am not that very good at HDR. I know this will not relate to DSLR movie, but I believe HDR is valuable in learning about shadow and highlights so that is why I involved this tutorial on HDR. Because I have Photomatix Professional I also when compared it to that as properly. To be truthful since I am not that great at HDR but, I kinda assume that the in digicam HDR did a greater task than I did.

You left out how it costs almost 300 dollars more.
what camera did you use to record this video?
@kav996 Nikon is pronounced "NEE CONE" ニコン
D5100 swirl screen is a huge improvement, plus better sensor. I do think, D3100 feels better in hand and has easier controls which is also a big catch. But the photos aren't the same as D5100.
watch my d3100 test video whith 18-200 mm lense 3,5 iso 100 and dolly shots !!!
@Ncode3 i went from an s95 to a nikon d5100 ,im a nikon person now if you havent got it already get it because it is easy to get used to and to learn ,great first dslr
@IcEIcEsan skip the d90
i wanted to learn about DSLR and photography..should i go with the d90 or d3100/d5100??...will d90 outperform d3100/d5100 in low light??
i dont get why people will dislike this video so good
@kav996 - I've heard many Nikon reps pronounce it the way I do. Different horses for different course I guess. Thanks for the compliment on my vids!
@Ncode3 - You'll certainly see a big step up in image quality over the G11. The G11 is a nice compact, but it can't compare to the D5100 sensor .
@ArtoftheImage You saying Asians pronounce Nikon wrong is like a Japanese person telling you your pronouncing Microsoft wrong. Its absurd and wouldn't happen. Its not really that big a deal but the point is that the creators/owners of Nikon Pronounce it Nick-on or Nee-kon in rare cases, but never Nye-kon. Therefore its the correct way as its their company and they decide. No disrespect to you at all and I think you produce great content
iv been using canon G11 since it came out, produced great images with it. Now that im moving into dslrs, im thinking of D5100 instead of staying in the canon line. Its got everything i need in a compact/smaller body. Plus, it looks damn sexy which is a big plus for me
@kav996 - What makes you think I'm pronouncing it wrong? I always find Asians and Europeans pronounce Nikon wrong. It's a tomato / potato pronunciation thing. Personally, I hate the soft "e" pronunciation of Nikon so that it sounds like "Neekon".
Reason 1, Waist more money on a incomplete camera, so 1 year later you will start thinking on replace it and Nikon guys will be very please to offer you a more expensive camera.
Wait, so in 720p, it's still 30fps?
It would be nice to see an American/Canadian pronounce Nikon right for once...
@MrJubblegum but it has 1080p at 30 fps instead of 1080p at 24fps on canons
@MrJubblegum *60FPS SORRY
But the D5100 still doesn´t have 30 FPS on 720p like the Canons, which is sad.
@pawningcity thanks
@robinfoote its fifty-one hundred =(51)00 he just says it a little slowly...
fifty one hundred = 50100. sorry couldn't resist pointing that out. Great videos tho.
where did u buy ur shirt??
@yaudtube I was wondering the same thing. Maybe I'm missing something simple - I just bought the 5100 and haven't had much time to play around with it, but..mine will only take two pictures in HDR mode. I've been trying to figure out how to get three.
whe takes the 3 shoots automatically join the pictures to one?
he just jumped over the 2 seconds one -.-
@playmyyoyo Thanks alot Dave!
@ctenochaetus that is NOISE REDUCTION, it decreases the amount of grain that you get as you increase your ISO, but may loose some details. I'm not certain yet to how much level you should up it, and/ keep it as it's normal state
Dave I got a question for you ,on my Nikon D5100 has an option on menu "High ISO NR" what is that for? Thanks.
@TheodoreTDT yeah HDR isn't available in RAW because a RAW image is only what the sensor see so all 3 pic`s would look the same
Check out my sample pictures with my Nikon D5100 on my channel!!!
Does anyone know how to use bracketing (not just the in camera) or histograms with the Nikon d5100?
hey my camera isn;t on raw and its on JPEG normal, HDR option is still unavailable, do you know how i might be able to get it to work? thanks!
@TheodoreTDT nice. it worked.does it shoot 3 different pictures when u use the HDR in the camera? or do u have to set it up urself?cause it cant be HDR if the camera doesnt shoot different WB or something? =P im new to this,but JPG doesnt allow to much fixing after?i tried shooting manually RAW 3 same pictures with different white balance..that worked awesome.is it possible to take 3-4pictures with 3-4 different focus point?so u would have a more detaljed picture all over? thx btw=)
@m3g1 If you chose to shoot and record RAW images, HDR would be not available. So get back to the menu and choose to shoot with JPEG only
hope this helps
Hi! can somebody please tell me why i can pick or use the HDR mode? it says that the settings is wrong or something like that... anybody know why i cant chose that format?! =(( i was really looking forward to taking pictures in HDR and it didnt work =(
One problem with D5100, there is not a lot of control. You have to go to menu and turn thin on and then use it, which is quite difficult to do every single time, you want to use a feature, for example timer. There are only 2 short cut keys but functions are a lot.
@sladjanvasic try playing with aperture/shutterspeed/exposure compensation.
I bought D5100, but no HDR. Firmware update?
Well, in the camera store they also didnt know how to put the self timer on 2 seconds.
And I agree, in terms of convenient settings the d5100 can be a pain in the ass. The EOS600D is much easier to handle but unfortunately has no HDR. Here you depend on photoshop.
Hello, Thanks for a tutorial. However, I still have one dilemma. After taking a HDR photo, on your live preview display, photo still looks like overexposed trough the window. Do you need to some additional software or something to get final HDR as you are presented as "HDR in Camera" ?
I have the same camera, and in the camera display I'm also not satisfied with it. But I'm never transfer it to PC to check :/ ...
Is that just a display "error" or it needs more editing ?
Thanks
what do you mean by smoothing?
@IsaSartor Hi, I think Nikon D5100 is much better than D7000 and Canon 7D for video recording.
I'm sad cause my Nikon D3100 doesn't have HDR built in... I need to get better at doing it in Photoshop.. :s
great tutorial, thanks !!!!
Thank you ☺
wow, this is awesome. thanks :O)
