Maybe you should mention that the 600D does not autofocus when shooting video, while the D5100 does....
I FINALLY saved up enough money for either one.
This will be my FIRST DSLR camera..i've never used one so i don't know exactly how to work it, but i need an honest opinion form someone on which one i should get as a beginner?
this is a realy good video, now i know what camera buy. this video was decisive.
If you are going for recreation, get the 600D. If you have a profession of photography, get the D5100.
You should just buy a CAMCORDER maybe you'll get better better footage.
I think people who always use the argument that a DSLR should be used for photography and videocameras should be used for video don't understand the market. Many people would rather have a single DSLR that takes both good stills AND video in one unit instead of buying two separate pieces of equipment. For one I could use the SAME lenses that I buy for a DSLR for pictures and video. Also everybody knows that videocameras take crappy pictures so DLSRs that take great video makes more sense.
@AhhboyyouGay - No, not when filming video. The camera sets the exposure.
if you put your camera in Manual mode it lets you use manual exposure? right? for the nikon d5100.
I just got the canon one and I am still learning how to take good pictures any advice. great videos man
@Oogwaylaugh @Oogwaylaugh lol. fail math dude.... d5100= $799 600d= $849..... 850-800=50...
hey guys can anyone help me out. im planning on getting the d5100 its gonna be my first dslr. just askin but in video mode can the auto focus be turned off. cos looking at sample videos its noisy when the cameras focusing especially when your moving the camera.
Thank you for this one! I read a dozen other reviews and comparisons, and still could not understand what is going on.. You put it simple and to the point. Great!
cant be the manual exposure problem be solved by firmware upgrade? reply please
I hate this hole video thing, its a DSLR which are made PHOTOGRAPHY not for taking videos. You can not judge a DSLR camera on its video quality. If it takes better PHOTOS than it's a better camera, since the Nikon D5100 takes better photos, it's a no brainer that it's a better camera. Canon has never matched Nikon's photo quality because they're too focused on trying to make a DSLR a camcorder. Just one of the reasons I don't like Canon.
hi, nikon D5100 vs canon 550d , Which One Should I Buy???
Its not too much of a swayer for me, but what type of artistic filters does the T3i have versus the D5100?
can you please compare Canon EOS 60D from the Canon EOS 600D? thanks a lot!
Canon spokes man! I wish people would remember that a dslr main use is for photos! Not video. I personaly think if u want good vids by a sony z1 and work your way up the VIDEO CAMERA ladder! Dslr stills !
How long does it take to snap a photo between the T3i & D5100? Cause I have a Nikon Coolpix which takes too long to take photos so I got a Canon which is better. I also saw a video comparing different shots, and I found the T3i photos to have brighter colors. I'm looking for a primarily still camera but am into film. Would you still recommend a T3i?
This was a pretty big help. I have a Canon and a Nikon coolpix and am looking for a more professional photography camera, but I'm into film as well. My Nikon takes forever to snap a shot though which is why i got the Canon, if the subject moved the picture would blur.
How long does it take to snap a photo between the T3i & D5100?
Also, I saw a video with a few comparison shots & I found the Canon to have brighter coloring in daylight shots.
Thanks for the video, your channel is great. When I compare the D5100 with the 600D, however, I find that the latter is inferior in almost every way. I am into video AND photography, but I can't really take the 600D knowing the D5100 is better at almost everything, except having manual exp. controls for video. What should I do?
@ArtoftheImage can one disable the auto focus function during video mode??? that irritating lens noise creeps in everytime... help pls!!!
I'm one of those equally interested in video and photo, but in my case this will be for scuba diving. Having never used a video camera in manual mode I am not sure I understand the advantage in a scuba situation, if any. So my question, which would you recommend for scuba?I want the flexibility of moving from photo to video very quickly. I would hate to miss a passing shark because I am fiddling with changing to video mode. Thanks Russ
cool!
@amccune - You can't do video in manual mode on the D3100. It will still be controlling the exposure during video recording. You can manually focus your lens.
