@TheCrashProject Maemo transitioned into MeeGo which is transitioning into Tizen. The thing with WP7 is that it's becoming so flexible its going to be able to rum across all ranges. They wouldn't have won because again, no apps. WP7 is a great choice and I think it'll work out for them.
@TheMegaJet My phone is rooted and I'm running stock ICS by team hacksung. Its running normally because the specs are the same as the nexus s. Google does get to it eventually but it still hits a decent amount of people.
can some one tell me what song in the second half... once the quirky tune starts. I know its not T.E.E.D - garden , thass the starting one.

@ShiningWolf1992 I know right, can't believe he canceled N9 for this Trojan Horse Microsoft, My days, what was this man thinking.and the N9 was so amazing, if only they have invested more into it... and he did cancel N9 for windows, because they have the same design.. apart from that massive windows logo
@katykatforeverx Galaxy SII is the most popular phone in the UK, it took over the iPhone a LONG time ago, why? Because even though it is 3/4 of a year old, it still kicks the crap out of the 4S which is still relatively new. better processor, AMOLED screen, thinner, better choice, a lot more customisation, more freedom and a better aspect ratio for videos and movies.
@linda848ify 1) Nokia openly admitted that they had a crap past and they were losing out on a bigger market. 2) Most people already bought new phones before the Lumia 800 was announced due to the massive expansion in smartphones, and therefore, those on contract can't update yet, and would have to wait or cancel their contract to buy one, which they will not do. 3) They have numerous 3rd party developers, and have generated more apps in their time than iOS had done in an equal amount of time.
@SporadicMuffin But, the Galaxy S can't run ICS? Touchwiz, video calls and Samsung Widgets consume too much of the ROM to allow it to run ICS. Only things in Galaxy range that can run ICS are SII, Nexus and all Tabs besides original Tab. Also, any malware or poor content deemed offensive or damaging to user or handset is promptly removed by Google, they check for that kind of crap all the time.
Windows Phone <3
@SporadicMuffin If Nokia didn't abandon Maemo and pushed it to the high-end market, and Symbian at the low-end and mid-range, they'd probably win. But anyways, now that Windows Phone is here, I can't do anything but to see how it performs. And I'd be getting one, for sure.
@SporadicMuffin
Neither were you. All we can do is to sit here and hope for the best.
@ShiningWolf1992 Nice talkin to you though. At least you weren't irrational like some guys do.
@ShiningWolf1992 I think MeeGo and the N9 would have been great for Nokia, like a year or two ago. Just late to the game. IMO, it's just better to go with WP7 which works fine, has a great ecosystem, and a rapidly expanding marketplace. Combine this OS with beautiful hardware and mapping software from Nokia and there you have something special. I just think Elop deserves a chance because I'd hate to see the legendary Nokia die without putting up a fight.
@TheCrashProject Look at Nokia, doing horribly. Look at MS, doing incredibly well. Obviously MS is doing something better than Nokia and maybe these executives can help make Nokia into a successful company as well/ If you really want to know who doomed Nokia it's the former CEOs who bashed Android and kept going with Symbian and developing MeeGo. Now, we barely have MeeGo working decently with no apps in a smartphone competition. MeeGo can't compete but WP can.
@TheCrashProject Cancellation of the 600 and N950 are obvious. Their new choice is Windows Phone. Layoffs came due to tanking sales. Would have happened no matter what. Dumping MeeGo and Symbian are also obvious because of tanking sales. Qt was nice, but if they're ditching MeeGo and Symbian what's the point? NSN is doing horrible. They layed off over 17k people. I'd sell them too. Hiring MS execs luckily came with Elop because he has relationships with them.
@TheCrashProject No, their sales were tanking for years and years all the way though now. They've had top spot in marketshare but their sales kept dwindling down until Android eventually overtook it. They were selling more phones in total because of their cheaper phones available across different types of economies. Right now, Samsung shipped the most smartphones this year at 24mill, Android is at 52% global share, and feature phones? Who cares?
@SporadicMuffin
Hehe, the IBM from 1999 is one I have in the storage somewhere ^_^
Windows 98 FTW
I'm using an 2 year old Acer laptop at moment.
Now I see what you meen, but hey, Linux's are still under development. Give them some time. I'm atleast open minded about it.
I think we had a quite good conversation, it's good to know opinions of someone who supports these Lumias and Elop, as far I have only met those who are more or less against it like I am.
@SporadicMuffin I know their sales bombed due to the N97's piss-poor software performance. However, in 2010, their sales are slowly increasing due to the hype that was the N8. Search wherever you want to search and they're going to tell you the same thing. Symbian's sales in 2010 up to January 2011 are better than what it is now, and Nokia is still the #1 seller of smartphones; Symbian is still the #1 operating system; and of course, their featurephone division is err, #1.
@SporadicMuffin And the cancellation of Nokia 600/N950, discontinuation of Ovi Contacts, layoffs at Nokia, outsourcing, dumping of MeeGo and Symbian, selling of commercial Qt assets, planned selling of Nokia Siemens Networks, selling of wireless assets at NSN, departure of several executives, hiring of execs at Microsoft, and of course, Windows Phone. You think that would happen if Elop did not come to "save" Nokia? He's dooming it. And it's obvious.
@TheCrashProject Sales were tanking far before Elop took the reigns. Many shareholders realize this. It was due to former CEOs not realizing that Symbian is dead and MeeGo was just going to take too long to develop. The Lumia 800 was a success. It's actually made WP relevant. With the +500k sales it will spread immediately by word of mouth and ads. Elop is doing all in his power to correct the years of lolly gagging by Nokia while iOS and Android have taken over.
@SporadicMuffin There. I admit, Jorma and OPK have made a lot of missteps in the company. But ever since they have announced their Qt-MeeGo-Symbian strategy, they've been learning and taking the path to the right direction. It's a step forward, but Windows Phone's announcement ruined it.
Come to think of it. They released N9, but a day after that, a video of Elop showing the "super confidential" Sea Ray has "leaked." Really? I think that was planned to ruin N9's future sales.
@SporadicMuffin I think the members of the board are pretty dumb not to see how their sales have shrinked after the Elopocalypse, that is, the February 11th announcement. Everything Elop has done on and after that day, made nothing but further irrelevance to the brand. Nokia has been downgraded a couple of times, and has been delisted in at least two stock exchanges, and has seen further erosion on its shares. I don't think that would happen if Elop did not announce WP early.
@ShiningWolf1992
That's really good for Linux but it isn't useful or wanted by 90% of people in the world.
I can run Windows 7 on an old computer as well.
Honestly, most people should get a new computer if their current one is from 1999.
No potential because Linux, actual Linux, is not consumer friendly. It offers NO benefits to consumers over Windows and brings little applications and games. Android isn't full Linux, MeeGo is. Android turned out okay but has just gotten great in ICS.
@ShiningWolf1992
If developers were so excited how come there were virtually no apps made? Devs were excited for WP7 and made 45k in a year.
It's stupid because he sold hundreds of thousands of phones? Yeah, real stupid first launch.
Yes, Nokia N8 and soon to own an N9.
@SporadicMuffin
Ever tought about it that Linux's are developped and supported by small companies?
Linus Torvalds made Linux all by himself by 100% rewriting a Minix (A form of UNIX).
I can run the newest Linux on a old computer without any problem.
One of the HP laptops I run the newest Ubuntu on is about 6 years old. I think our old PC from 1999 could run it, I have to try sometime.
How so no potential to be great? Look at Android! Read about Linux potentials a bit.
