All we know that Nikon's sensors are Sony made. And all we know that the best camcorders are Sony. So if you add sony sensor + nikon technology + Nikkor lens = best DSLR for video and for picture. Then who care's about stupid Canon.
Buy canon just for the L lenses.
@cahoonu Canon knows that filmmakers anywhere above hobby level refuse to use auto focus anyway, I think they are targeting that market more. Although I'd prefer more control over my video, I just like Nikon lenses more for video, so Nikon it is.
Yes, the Canon has slightly higher resolution but also a smaller sensor

i have heard the canon 600d is much better than the nikon d5100 for video. but nikon has 20min limit. canon only 11 minutes. and nikon looks much cooler. i want a nikon but i want to know what i am sacrificing for a nikon. my biggest purpose is shooting 90 minutes cinema full 1080p @24fps films.and also how much minutes of full 1080p video shooting could the nikon manage on 1 single battery load?

Thank you so much for this review, I've watched several other d5100 vs. 600D videos but this one was the only one that made me feel certain about my choice! Great work.
You forgot to mention the Canon has a built-in focusing motor.
I wanted to get the nikon, but the thing is nikon needs to step up their game, i mean seriously .. no 720p at 60 fps? I think I'm going with the 600d, unless nikon releases a firmware update that enables 720p video at 60fps
Nikon has total manual control, if you dont believe watch my videos, I can do aeverything that you can do with a canon, more, nikon d5100 is more sharp and has other funtion that canon dont has. Nikon d5100 win!
@cahoonu When you're shooting video properly you always manual focus though. And the Nikon AF isn't great anyway.
